Energy Analysis: Power Deviation

In many states electrical distribution companies are allowed to assess additional fees onto the monthly billings for commercial and industrial customers. These “demand charges” or “penalty fees” are normally based on the customer’s peak demand (either consumed power or harmonically-generated distortion) during a twelve month period and often do not reflect actual usage for the current billing period. Since these charges are over and above what the customer pays for power actually used they are sometimes referred to as “phantom charges.” These fees represent electricity measured (and billed) but not actually used to operate equipment, lighting, etc. By measuring the electrical parameters of transformers under real-time load conditions we are able to determine if problems exist that might be remedied with upgraded equipment. By consolidating these measurements with specific information supplied by the customer we can then oversee the design, manufacturing, and installation of custom transformers for that specific application, thus eliminating or greatly reducing the costly effects of harmonics.

Single-Line Drawing and System Recommendation

As part of Brenco’s analysis and design services for electrical systems, particularly transformers, it is necessary to work from an accurate schematic rendering of the electrical routing within the facility. Where such a drawing exists we prefer to use it as a basis, correcting and updating the information as required. If no routing plan is known to exist, no problem.   Brenco has an additional service team that has the knowledge and capabilities to create a usable facsimile that will only require additional time and manpower. Once all data has been gathered and processed we are able to present a recommendation to the customer outlining suggested improvements, proposed energy cost savings, and probable return on investment.
